The difference between anti-gene and PCR tests
Anti-gene tests or “ the rapid ones”, the swabs of nasal mucous are taken and the results are ready within 20 minutes. The test reveals the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus anti-gene in the nasal swab and enables faster and more accessible diagnostics. If the test is positive, a person must self-isolate and contact the relevant epidemiology office or one must contact their GP. If the test is negative and Covid-19 infection symptoms are present, one must do a PCR test to confirm or exclude the presence of the virus.
For their part, PCR test gives the precise result even a tested person does not manifest the virus symptoms as this type of testing can recognize successfully the existence of the tiniest amounts of the virus. The virus presence is detected by tracing a virus RNA molecule, which enables the virus detection on a smaller sample before the infection develops. The sampling procedure taking is similar to that of the anti-gene test and the results of the PCR testing ought to be expected within 24 hours.
It is important to distinguish both the anti-gene and the PCR tests from serology ones. The anti-gene and the PCR test point out the virus present in your body and the positive result suggests whether or not you are infected. As for the serology tests, they show the presence of antibodies your organism has developed while encountering the virus and suggests if you have had the infection or have been exposed to the virus.
